Verification of Skills

Verification of Skills (VOS) is an assessment to ensure workers have the skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate Heavy Plant and Equipment.

In some countries this is called Verification of Competency (VOC).

Employers should ensure that new workers can demonstrate they have the skills to perform the work they must do, not just have a license.  An assessment of their skills should be completed at the time of recruitment or as part of every new employee’s induction.

To assist in maintaining good Workplace Health and Safety practices, employers should also consider that each of their existing workers undergo a VOS assessment every twelve months.  This can greatly improve productivity and minimise equipment wear and tear.
